Every Appointment is Very Personal and Unhurried

Words are not enough to describe how much I like Dr Salerno and his office staff. Dr Salerno is extremely knowledgeable, kind, and attentive. He has a very warm bedside manner that put me at ease right away. He listens and makes every appointment very personal and unhurried. The whole staff matches him in professionalism, compassion, efficiency, and helpfulness. The nurses are especially great, being very caring and well-informed. You just feel good that you are being treated by such good people. I always look forward to my appointments. You can tell everyone that they love what they do.

Dr. John Salerno Immediately Offered Me the Peace of Mind and Detailed Attention to Detail I Felt was Missing from My Medical Team

I have a few serious medical concerns that I felt were not being addressed as well as they could be with my doctors. I constantly spent 30 to 60 minutes past my appointment time in the waiting room, then another 30 minutes in the exam room. When I did my doctors, it seemed like they were more concerned about getting back on schedule than addressing my issues with anything outside of a new or renewed (and frequently stronger) prescription. I always have and will be thankful for my doctors, but I feel like I could do more.

Dr John Salerno immediately offered me the peace of mind and detailed attention to detail I felt was missing from my medical team. As a complementary physician (a term I had never heard of), Dr. Salerno bridged the gap between traditional medical care and functional medicine. For me, adding holistic and natural treatments boosted my spirits as much as my health. Today, I take very specific supplements, embrace IV therapy, and have experienced hyperbaric oxygen treatments, to name a few. All medical services that are outside the realm of my traditional doctors.

I still see my conventional medical team, but I find the care Dr. Salerno provides teaches me more about how I can help myself overcome health challenges and be proactive in preventing illness. I couldn't recommend him any higher, especially for older patients with an interest in longevity, aging healthily, and overall wellness.

Under Dr. Salerno's Care, I No Longer Feel Like a Victim of Diabetes; I feel Like A Survivor

When I first became a diabetic about 20 years ago, my endocrinologist gave me Metformin, a standard drug for people with diabetes. As the years passed, more medicines were added to my daily routine to the point I now take about 15 different meds for diabetes, liver, kidneys, and anything connected to diabetes.

I consider myself a very knowledgeable diabetic patient as I go every three months, take my medicine religiously, and try to adapt to the rigid rules of the diabetic lifestyle that include exercise and a very carb-reduced diet. I am also a chef who spends as much time sitting at a computer as I do in the kitchen. While I can cook delicious, portion-controlled meals that support a diabetic lifestyle, it's hard to look away from the meals I prepare for others.

Nine months ago, my A1c reading was 7.8, which is high. Doctors like you to be under 7.0 if you have diabetes. I also suspect I am starting to experience insulin resistance as my primary source of managing my diabetes, when I overeat or eat outside the realm of a diabetic meal, is to shoot up massive quantities of insulin. It may not sound like a great plan, but it has worked for me.

My doctor wanted me to try a new insulin, one so strong you take it once a day, and no other insulin to manage highs and lows. All we do is increase the meds, and when I do have a good quarter, the doctor takes all the credit for his drug prescriptions, even when I know the truth is that I buckled down for a while and ate properly and exercised regularly.

When I went to Dr. Salerno's website for a second opinion, my eyes were forever opened to learn how he treats the cause of a health concern, not the symptoms. That is all I've been getting since my endocrinologist diagnosed me: more medicine for the symptom.

Of course, I knew a proper diet and regular exercise helped manage diabetes, but that is much easier said than done. I read somewhere that 95% of the diabetic population does not adhere to the lifestyle. But what impressed me most about Dr. Salerno is that he totally understood my position and what it was like to be a diabetic.

Some of his treatment methods were unique, such as adding a supplementation program, IV Therapy, and some hormone replacement therapy. These subjects never came up with my traditional doctor.

There is no magic formula to manage diabetes. It's just hard and unpleasant, even on the best days, but I found a partner in Dr. Salerno in managing my longevity, whom I hadn't had before. His supportive nature and the way he explains strategy, as well as how he motivates, have been the missing piece I've needed from my medical team.

Today's test, my A1c was 6.3, a new record for me, which motivated me to share my review of Dr. Salerno. Of course, we both know my endocrinologist will pound his chest and take all the credit for my record-low A1c because of his mastery of writing prescriptions. Let's not tell him who really deserves the congratulations. One last thought, under Dr. Salerno's care, I no longer feel like a victim of diabetes; I feel like a survivor.
